My Ideal Client

Trauma, grief, loss of health, change in a relationship, or job, or home- all of these things can feel overwhelming. They may leave you feeling stuck, weighed down or dysregulated. You may be searching for a non-judgmental sanctuary to explore and integrate your struggles. In sessions we tap into your innate abilities, the wisdom of your body, and your creativity, to help process and work through obstacles, in order to align with your true self and experience transformation.

My Background and Approach

I offer creative opportunities for growth that are informed by IFS (Internal Family Systems) somatic approaches, nervous system regulation , and regular talk therapy. I offer a supportive, hands-on way to process and transform life challenges. My approach is based on the belief that we all have creativity within us that can help us heal, grow and integrate our experiences. I have worked in community mental health, day treatment, hospice and the hospital settings. In private practice I have experience working with trauma, anxiety, depression, health crisis, and grief. I have a particular passion for life transitions that may cause grief, such as loss of health, the death of an important person, relationship changes, or existential grief. I provide workshops, groups and individual counseling. I am a licensed-certified art therapist in Oregon (LCAT) and board-certified art therapist (ATR-BC). I have a BS in Human Services, a BFA in Art Education and MA in Art Therapy Counseling.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

These are the things I believe in for myself and for any other human being: Art is able to express crucial things we don't have words for. We all have untapped wisdom within us. Everyone deserves to be seen and heard, just as they are. We all need more meaningful connection. Our bodies send us messages that are important to listen to. Everyone has creativity within them. Nature is medicinal. Making things feels really good! We should all strive to find and be our authentic selves. We are whole just as we are (even with imperfections.)

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Loss or Grief External link

For over 4 years I have offered 6-week Art Therapy for Grief groups. The groups provide a chance to use creativity to process the death of a significant person. I also offer individual grief counseling. I believe humans are designed to grieve in community, with witnesses and support. In addition, creative approaches to grief can be profoundly helpful when words don't suffice. Workshops for Loss are offered a few times a year also.

  • Anxiety External link

In my view, anxiety is a sign from the nervous system that it could use help feeling more regulated. Somatic approaches and IFS (Internal Family Systems) can tap into how our body communicates with us, and how to tend to the physical and mental sensations of anxiety. I have been trained in Somatic Embodiment and Regulation Strategies, IFS as well as Trauma-Informed CBT that have informed my understanding of anxiety and how best to regulate it. Also, art therapy is highly beneficial for anxiety.

  • Cancer External link

I have had experience working with life-threatening illnesses, including cancer, for over a decade. From both personal and professional experiences, I have come to believe that tending to the emotional state of patients and caregivers is a crucial part of managing the illness. I have work experience in hospice, palliative care, and other chronic illnesses. I also have a personal history with serious illness and medical trauma that gives me insight into someone's struggle..

  • PTSD External link

Trauma that is carried in the mind and body for a long time can create havoc on the nervous system, sense of self, and day to day functioning. Certified and trained in Somatic Embodiment and Regulation, Trauma-Informed CBT, Bi-lateral tapping and Flash technique with art therapy, these approaches can be used to help clients safely integrate trauma. Group offerings such as Art Therapy for Nervous System also can be beneficial to address PTSD.
